The AACO is one of the oldest supranational ophthalmological societies representing most Afro Asian countries. It helps in promoting the advancement of all modern techniques towards excellence in scientific and clinical practice in all aspects of Ophthalmology. The Afro-Asian Council of Ophthalmology was established before 1958 and was based in Egypt. Many of the Afro-Asian countries are represented in the council including Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, Nigeria, Tunisia, Libya, Syria, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Turkey, India, China, and Ukraine. The main subjects of these congresses were concerned with combat of ocular infections, glaucoma and cataract and had promoted the recent advances in cataract, laser and vitreoretinal surgery.
After 62 years the AACO will hold its 20th Congress this year 2020, which coincides with the beginning of the 20s of 21 century. The aim of AACO is to promote the progress of prevention and treatment of ocular diseases in African and Asian countries through extensive academic exchanges, and to continuously achieve new successes.
This 20th AACO is bound to be a grand gathering for African and Asian ophthalmologists. With the advancement of current ophthalmology, we also have to exchange warmly the valuable experience in the prevention of blindness as well as new technologies and new therapies.
In 1984, the Ophthalmological Society of Pakistan (OSP) hosted 8th AACO. We believe that the OSP will contribute to the success of 20th AACO with rich experience in organizing conference and academic exchanges.
